How do you answer the birds and bees questions from kids?

My oldest daughter is 7 almost 8 and now that she has expierenced me being pregnant twice she has always asked alot of questions of where babies come from.. I have always been honest with her to a point.

Tonight we had a discussion about having the menstral cycle because she asked what a period is...something she heard from her cousin.. I explained it very truthfully.

I just wonder what other Parents are doing with these type of questions and how old your kids are or were when you these talks.. thanks! How do you answer the birds and bees questions from kids?
Glad you have done this early. Some girls get their periods as early as 9 these days, so she needs to be ready.

We started around 6, but well before then he knew all the proper biological names for body parts.

It's just important to do this so they aren't believing the crap they hear from others at school, and so things can be explained with accordance to the family's own values. How do you answer the birds and bees questions from kids?
Im proud of you!!!! Most parents are too afraid to tell their kids the truth, like its a taboo or something!! Keep it up!
be honest--take it easy and explain it in small doses--can't give too much info--just enough --a little at a time--don't wait for her to ask--give her an education now. there are girls having sex at 11 around here--that is not far off from 7 and 8 years old. This is all very serious but all part of life and parenting--it will be a healthy respect for life as time goes on. good luck
Always be truthful and don't volunteer any information they

didn't ask for. Always let them know that you are glad they

ask you instead of someone who might give them wrong

information or someone that don't know. Don't show shock

over words they may use as they are out there and kids pick

them up. Be light hearted and serious at the same time. And

above all be honest. If your not they will pick it up like a

psychic. Good luck.
I have PC OS and have been under treatment for that since my daughter was four so I make a huge effort to tell her what is normal for most women so that she does think that this is what she has too look forward to in terms of a menstrual cycle.

And that normally leads to other such reproductive questions so we answer those too just as matter of fact as why is the sky blue and why is the fridge cold.
the more they know the more likely they are to make good choices in the long run. you would rather them hear it form you then from someone else.
My daughter will be 7 next month, and she has seen that I have had periods, as well as me being pregnant. I am as honest with her as she can understand. I recently had a hysterectomy, and because I had to stay in the hospital, I told her that the uterus, which holds the babies was sick and had to be taken out, so mommy won't have any more babies. She gets it. Kids are sometimes smarter than we give them credit for, so it is always smart to be as honest as possible, so that they will still understand for their age.
The birds and bees get together and make little birds and bees!!! That should be enough until they are older!!
I always answered the questions asked truthfully, you don't have to expound...just answer what is asked.
