Small, flat, items that remind you of Rome.

Buy a foam or wooden bee from the craft store.

I don't know if you do embossing, if you do you could emboss honey onto some pages.

The nest is deep in the pile, and there are a lot of bees.I have a yellow jacket nest in my compost pile, how do I kill the bees in it?
Either call a professional to remove it or just wait until the winter so you won't get stung. Then you can break up the nest and let it compost.

Using bug spray in a compost bin kind of defeats the purpose of making compost.I have a yellow jacket nest in my compost pile, how do I kill the bees in it?
Inform the yellow jackets that a family of 'bees' have taken over their nest. Simple ....
They sell a spray, that you can use from a distance, kills them dead.

Do honey bees die if the honey or part of the comb is removed from the hive?

Someone told me the bees die if disturbed or the honey or part of the comb is removed. I like honey and beeswax candles, but do not wish to harm the bees.Do honey bees die if the honey or part of the comb is removed from the hive?
It is an unfortunate inevitability that one or two bees die in the extraction process. Before removing the comb, the keeper will smoke the bees with oil, which floods the box with CO2 and calms the bees down. Then they remove the frame the honeycomb is in--leaving the comb containing worker larvae alone. However, one or two workers may be on the honeycomb and, when it is brought into the room where they spin the comb to extract the honey, the bees still attached die.

But it's one or two bees out of tens of thousands. Beekeepers are very mindful that a healthy colony means good honey production.Do honey bees die if the honey or part of the comb is removed from the hive?
No. Beekeepers only take some of the honey, leaving enough to keep the bees alive all winter till the next honey season.

I am sure the bees would appreciate your good intentions but if honey was not collected as a salable product no one would bother to raise bees and most of them would be dead by next year.
    PENGUINNsss!!!!
No, but they get really mad! It just means more work!

the only other thing you can do is on the credits at the end of the movie, it may well say what songs/tracks are used. By law it will have to give the song name and the artist/s. why don't you copy the ifo (via freeze frame and a pad of paper) then download the tracks from itunes or something individually.

failing that, try CDWOW or play.com. they can be quite goodWhere can I find the secret life of bees soundtrack?

What are we going to do about the Bees dying off in huge numbers?

I mean bees are still the main/only source of pollenation for our world's plants. No bees, no plants, no food! Anybody remember the frogs being born with two heads, three arms and the like, what has been happening to the frogs? What are we going to do about the Bees dying off in huge numbers?
Honey bees are not a native species in North America, and much of the world where they exist. Honey bees compete with native pollenators and they have a huge detrimental effect on native plants and insects. The loss of honey bees is a fantastic development for the natural environment, and if the bees disappear entirely, it might prevent the extinction of numerous North American plants and insects.

Problem is our crops are not natural plant communities, and some crops aren't all that attractive to native pollenators. Honey bees fill the void for these crops. So now farms in California won't be able to produce a number of crops that are endemic to other parts of the world. Whats wrong with only producing crops in the places where they grow naturally? What are we going to do about the Bees dying off in huge numbers?
You really shouldn't believe everything you're told or read. Most of it is just junk. The only problems with bees is that there are too many of them and some have become Africanized.
No more honey? I would just die. I never heard that bees were dying off.
With two headed frogs well be out of flys! but toally up with really cool stuff to look at!

well self pollinate! but way faster just fingure a flower make it ejaculate on u n put it in the other flower

**** THEM THRY CAN LEAR HOW TO HAVE SEX LIKE EVEYRONE ELSE

u dont c us jackin off on someone n makin them insert it in the vagina
    bees....frogs.....what?
I guess we'll have to have funerals and a lot of little bee caskets.
these is pandemic to honey bees. its a mite the clogs up their suffocates them due to their number. its a real problem as honey bees pollinate many flowers, and it could disrupt the ecosystem quit badly. if they go extinct, or a better world is extirpated (extinct from a region), then many other animals could suffer because certain foliage could die out. many plants that flower are insect specific. some moths and butterflies can only pollinate certain flowers, just as honey bees can.

It would be nice if you could live with the bumble bees. However, if you have to exterminate them, here is what to do: Cover the area with a tarp or garbage bag at night when they are all in the nest. Then make a small slit in the cover and spray poison into the area below the cover. In the morning you will have no more bee problem.I have bees living in the ground in my garden,i can i get rid of them without killing things in my garden?
Bumble (or Humble) bees are a threatened species.

Maybe you should seek advice from your local Council/Pest extermination officer.

You are so lucky - I have put bumble bee nest boxes all around my garden and not one has used it! I love to watch them being busy on the cotoneaster and in and out of the foxgloves.
soft bodied insects can be killed with tobacco tea. look on the internet for the simple recipe. Its merely boiled pipe or loose tobacco then strained. You can pour it on the ground where the bees are at night when there sleeping.

I just found out that I have bees inside my attic, so I need some advice on how to remove the nest?

I love and respect the bees, and I really don't want to exterminate them completely, look I have lot of honey inside my attic. A bee expert told me that they got trapped from last year when I sealed my vents to prevent other animals from getting inside; it鈥檚 really amazing how they survived all these days and made the honey.I just found out that I have bees inside my attic, so I need some advice on how to remove the nest?

I guess they are real honey bees. If so find a bee keeper that would be more than happy to come and get them out.

Bees are dying and deseased all across the country. So I know they would love to have them.

I use to keep bees and would go remove hives for people just to get the hives. and let you keep the honey. Good luck

I was just going to tell you to seal everything, hence, no nutrition, no life. But calling a bee keeper is your best and right solution. An exterminator will do just that, exterminate them.

You see, there are good people on this earth!
well if they are still alive they arent trapped. i dont know how you would relocate them. but if you have to kill them and you dont want to use chemicals try soapy water.
Call a bee keeper he will come and get them for you.

Do bees after flying around during the day always go home to a hive?

Yes they return even upon the event of an incoming storm. Bee's are able to navigate to specific flowers relayed from other bee's in the form of a dance. They use this navigation in relation to the location of the sun in the sky. They use this same manner to return to the hive. They are also able to tell the change in sun location in regards to time. They know that every 4 minutes they will have to change their course by 1 degree in relation to the sun.Do bees after flying around during the day always go home to a hive?
I am not entirely sure but I think most bees attempt to do so. As you can imagine they are not always successful...hence this question has two answers.Do bees after flying around during the day always go home to a hive?
    Yes. Unless they die.

well i'll let you in on a little secret here. bees are very sexual beings. (HAHAH, BEEings... get it?!) so, BEEing that 14 is an even number, and sex occurs in partnered form (for bees, at least) then you've got yourself a gang-bang of critters. get used to the buzzing sound, you'll hear it quite freqently, BEEing that you've got a gang bang on your hands
There is probably a beehive in the ventilation shaft of the bathroom's exhaust fan.
Probably in a good hiding spot.

In the news it has been talking about loads of disapearing bees, what has happened to them and what can I do to help? What is happening to all the disapearing bees? and what can I do to help?
Here's the wiki article. What is happening to all the disapearing bees? and what can I do to help?
One theory (and there are many) is that it is signals from mobile phones that are cause the abandoned hives. If true, this would require a major upheaval - we've gotten so used to them (Phones, that is!)
You could try using your mobile in the city rather than at home, stick to the land line. Also bees are drawn to certain types of flowers and fruit, such as lavender, daises, roses and Lilly's, strawberries, blackberries etc.

They are great also for pest control, they feed their young largely on flies such as blue bottles, beetles and caterpillars. Bees and all forms of stingers are essential for the pollination of plants and flowers and trees, they are part of the reason why the world is so colourful and are an essential part of the Eco system.

I suggest you place as much flowers as possible in your garden, pesticide free. I have done this and I see loads of them almost everyday, I even have a colony that have set up home in my shed integrating a pair of old trainers into their hive, its massive, but since the shed is at the bottom of the garden and a good distance away, given I live in the country, I'm not bothered as all the stuff has been moved into the Garage.

People need to read up and learn more about our pretty black and yellow buddies, who not only provide delicious honey but make the world a brighter place...
I`ve used them all up in my magic act, oops there goes another one.
Don't worry, they are all in my garden. There's bloody loads of them.
Ok, first up are mobile phones the cause? Unlikely as the original report on bees and phones was misquoted. Base units from household cordless phones were used in a small pilot study to see if they could be placed in hives to throw off returning bees' navigation. Even then there was only an 8% ddifference between hives with and without the units in them.

As to the real cause, researchers are still undecided although toxicity in the environment, depletion of habitat and disease/parasitic attack are the current main culprits.

To help you can turn a small patch of garden (or window sill) over to flowering native plants. There is no shortage of blooms from plants bred for the garden, but native flowers (often considered weeds) can be in short supply. check with your local Nature society or council for a list of likely plants. Then add a bee box (a small box full of tiny card nesting tubes) and/or a small pile of wood. There are many varieties of bee and some of the rarer species need these kinds of home to use. If you are feeling dedicated you could also sew wildflower seeds on a local plot of derelict land and buy a pot of locally collected honey.

Hope you get to find out lots more.
its happened before, we still had honey!
It's a disease that kills the bees. It's not the first time, it has happened before, but now it;s in a greater scale.
Can try growing nice bright strong smelling flowers such as Geraniums, Aquilegia,Lupins, Foxgloves,Lavender, Salvia, Honeysuckle or even flowering fruit bushes and herbs. While waiting for these to grow try putting a solution of 30% Honey 70% water in very small conatiners (bottle top). This will give them something to live on and hopefully should encourage them.
its cell phones and no i will not give mine up.
I've heard that if all the bee's were to die we would all die 5years later (pollination)
I've read that as well as the quote w/ Albert Einstein. It scares me to death!

Now I've read that it wasn't Einstein who said it. I'll trash my cell phone anyway btw.

Are bees attracted to the color yellow?

Also, are wasps and hornets attratcted to yellow as well? Are bees attracted to the color yellow?
They can see different colors than we do, they mostly go after smells, a bee is more likely to see the pollen from a flower than the color of the flower. Everything for bees, wasps and hornets are about how they smell and they can be attracted to the smell of people as well as flowers. Are bees attracted to the color yellow?
i think they r bcuz today i was getin chase by a big bumblebee. i was wearin a BRIGHT yello shirt. (it was a brazil shirt mostly yello) but i was running and it was still chasing me. it also happened to me by a church. i was wearin a neon oj shirt. i was being chased. so i would say they r attracted to any bright color. some other insects too.

What influences have the disappearance of bees had?

so far on our environment %26amp; what are some influences could they have on the future?

As i was running away from a wasp in my front yard today, i realized i have not seen one bee during Spring so far, not even at my mother in laws, who loves to take care of her small garden %26amp; plants. What influences have the disappearance of bees had?
Bees are the pollinators of many of the fruits, nuts and vegetables we eat. Food shortages would be the main influence. Right now here in California..prices on nuts such as almonds have soared due to the disappearance of bees. What influences have the disappearance of bees had?
There is allot online about it. Bee keepers and orchard growers have big concerns. The bees polonise the flowers for our fruits we eat. We could live with out dandelions and goldenrod, but once the bees are to scarce to allow the fruit to be produced then well . . .
There has been a lot of concern regarding the disappearance of thousands of bees. They are vital to many of our crops. Without the bees to pollinate them many will not grow. The cause of the problem is still undiscovered.
I've heard of local avocado growers having reduced crops due to the honeybee shortage, in Southern California...

My dog just got attacked by bees and we cannot find the stinger?

We were walking my dog this morning and he bothered a bee hive on the ground. A ton of them attacked him, we cannot locate the stingers, what should we do?My dog just got attacked by bees and we cannot find the stinger?
Pour cool water over him or rub soothing cream on him. If you continue doing this they will gradually dislodge and fall out or it will just stop bothering him.

If none of this works (you should try it for a week or two) I suggest the vets is the place for you. :)My dog just got attacked by bees and we cannot find the stinger?
I would call the vet or vet clinic and see what they recommend. They may want to see the dog just to make sure it's not allergic to bee stings; because if it is, it's throat could start to swell and then he'd be in trouble for sure.

Poor dog, I feel for him! I know for a bee sting on people you can make a paste of meat tenderizer and water and it will take the pain away immediately. But, don't think I'd try putting that on the dog without the vet telling you to.

You will not find them. They are in the dog. Just be patient and sit and wait for them to drop out.

What would happen if the bees ceased to exist?

I would like the answer in stages eg:

1st year: People would feel sad due to the lack of honey and the looming thought that they will never be able to consume honey again.

    ETC. ETC.

What would happen if the bees ceased to exist?
In the short term, the price of honey would skyrocket, and so would the price of the things that are pollinated by honeybees -- almonds and oranges, among others.

The cost of meat would increase, because some feed crops are pollinated by honeybees.

Honeybees are not the only pollinators of crops though. There are plenty of other species of bees, flies, wasps, moths, and beetles which pollinate flowerrs. You can imagine that in the longer run, one or more of these will be domesticated, and put to use pollinating crops.

What would happen if the bees ceased to exist?
stage one - no pollination of food-producing plants

    state two - starvation

First, healthy plants/trees don't have problems with pests. I'm thinking that if the tree hasn't been fertilized, the tree, as old as it is, has used up the nutrients that once were there. More to follow :)

The first pest that came to mind is ';Tulip Poplar Scale'; which is a pest of Tuliptree and Magnolia...unusual amounts of bees and flies are symptoms. They suck the life juices from the twigs of the trees and beyond.

Try spraying the tree with an organic insecticidal soap, following label directions, to get rid of the pests. Also try applying 100% Pure Neem Oil to the soil. It's an organic repellent, not harmful to pets, humans or plants and doesn't deter beneficial critters. Just be sure to get 100% pure Neem oil to ensure that no chemicals have been added.

Do you have mulch around the tree? Organic mulch would retain moisture, condition the soil, harbor beneficial organisims and serve as an insulating factor.

Now for the fertilizer. Check with your local plant nursery to find a good organic fertilizer to put into the root system - this is where the nutrients will be best taken up by the tree. Remember the roots extend well beyond the branches so go out even further.

I hope this helps! Good luck to you and your magnolia.

I live in a farming village in North East Thailand. There are a lot of carpenter bees, known as Maeng Pboo, here as there are a lot of houses that have an upper story made from wood. This is where carpenter bees tend to live. They bore a very neat hole into the wood and live in there. They live a pretty much solitary existence and do not build communal nests like other types of bee. They live alone in their hole. As you say the male, which looks a little like a bumble bee, does not sting. The female which is black gives a very nasty sting but is not aggressive and will only use it in defense. You won't find a nest but if you see any holes in a piece of wood, facing down, they don't want to be washed out, about 3/8 to 1/2 an inch in diameter take care. That may be a carpenter bees home and he/she might be at home.

Yes. There has been a great bee die off - see article below. This is cause for concern.

I had a simalar experience to this my next door neighbour had poisened a hive and i found most of the dead bees on my side of the driveway
I know its weird right? This happend to my house, but all the bee's were dead INSIDE my basement!! It was nasty! So we called an exterminator, and he got rid of all of them.
Isn't California getting a really bad cold snap from that storm. I think that might be causing them to die they are fragile when things change quickly. Insects are very fickle.
It means the bees are finally becoming extinct in this world. They are moving on to a better place
As the weather turns cold and the normal flowers die off, the bees have less food to eat. At some point they start to live off the honey that is in the hive. In order to keep the honey from being used up the worker bees will raise another queen. When the other queen (or several queens) are hatched a portion of the worker bees leave with her. This reduces the consumption of stored honey at the main hive.

But, unless the new queen is very lucky in finding a new colony site quickly with a nearby food source her new workers will die off from lack of food, and so will she. I would guess that a new colony tried to move into your area and is suffering due to not enough food.
Be cautious around your home, you may have a hive nearby. This could present a danger to you and your family. There are several businesses which will come and remove the hive for a modest fee. Good luck!
I would contact someone. There are scientists who are tracking this alarming development.

The honey bees really are dying at a frightening rate. The bee-keepers release them into an area to help with the crops, but then something happens and they die before they return to the hive. It is really scary!

I have two colonies of bees nesting in the air space under my butyl flat roof for some years now. On hot days I imagine that I can actually smell their honey!

I would like to evict them, causing the least amount of damage to my home and also the colonies if possible.

I have the makings of one hive but don't know how to persuade them to inhabit it! They swarmed in May, and I don't anticipate further swarming this year.

Incidentally, I also react badly to bee stings.

Any sensible answers will definately considered as I am also suffering from a shortage of cash! How do you evict bees from their nest in the space beneath a flat butyl roof?
Get in contact with a bee keeper, the queen has to be taken and they know how.How do you evict bees from their nest in the space beneath a flat butyl roof?
    Very carefuly!
You can phone your local council and they will send a pest control operative to smoke them out, You have to pay for this, but not for 3 weeks before the invoice comes in.
there is a foaming wasp spray that u can purchase in most stores. I found mine in Walmart.

You spray the hive and run. If the bees start to attack, they will fall to the ground, because the weight of the spray, causes their entire body to foam, and they fall to the ground.

If the hive is light enuff, they too fall to the ground.

I have conquered many a nest with this spray and have even been bold enuff to try it with other family members nest.

    It really works.
i am a pest controller in your situation i would blow an insecticidal dust to kill them..this would be hard for you as you don't have the equipment or the protective gear.

if you can safely lift the roof and get to them a bee keeper would happily that them for you.

if all else fails try this....i don't know if it will work...a hindu customer of mine told me (as you know hundus don't like to kill anything).drill small holes in the wall and inject almond essence into the cavity where they are. This won't kill them but he swears the smell will repel them and they should leave.

    lol.

by the way if you try it and it works please let me know.
    Hi

Use a search engine to find a bee keeper in your local area to give you advice, or contact your council they should be able to put you in contact with some one.Good luck hope you don't get stung!
Smoke bomb.....not as harsh as it sounds..but dont be there when they come out!
Bad payers are a problem for all landlords and we’ve all found different ways to deal with the problem. The best solution is one that gets the tenant back on track and avoids a costly eviction.

I use the term “bad payer” to cover late payers, partial payers, check bouncers, and non-payers. There are a number of ways to deal with bad payers. First, you want to do everything in your power to ensure that all tenants pay on time, every time. For example, set up a schedule of discounts for on-time payments or late fees for late payments. Many landlords favor the discount approach because it is an easier sell to a prospective tenant, but you may find it is not as effective in reducing late payments. Why? Because there’s no stigma attached to not getting a discount.

Often people have good intentions about paying on time but don’t remember to make payments. Two ideas may help you here. One is to send out rent invoices. Your tenants get a bill each month for everything else they have to pay – why not their rent? Another is to offer an automatic payment plan. There are companies that you can use to set up automatic payments by direct withdrawal or by credit card. Again, these methods presume good intentions on the part of the tenant.

What do you do with a chronic late payer? First recognize that there are gray areas here. I believe your actions should depend on whether the lateness is consistent – for example, the tenant always pays between the third and sixth day of the month – or gets worse over time. A tenant whose lateness gets worse every month, despite your late fees and complaints about late payments, probably has little regard for your authority. When he is late enough to warrant an eviction notice, send it, and follow through. Chances are you’ve already seen other signs that this person is irresponsible- he doesn’t return your calls and may have misbehaved in other ways in the unit.

On the other hand, a consistent late payer is probably worth keeping, even if you can never get him to pay on time. Consider that the late payments are actually improving your bottom line. For example, suppose I have a tenant who always pays about the sixth day of the month, and is charged a $5 per day late fee on a $600 monthly rent. This tenant is giving me a 5% rent increase in exchange for a few days lateness – I’ll take that. Another consideration is how long it will take you to re-rent the unit. My properties are in New Hampshire and it’s very difficult to find a good tenant during the winter. If I evict my $600 per month tenant for late payments in November, and don’t find a new tenant until February, that’s $1,800 out the window. Better to put up with the late payments (and enjoy the late fees).

A partial payment is the same as a late payment. If a tenant pays $400 on time and sends the other $200 on the sixth day of the month, he’s late – and must pay the late fee. A bounced check is worse than a late or partial payment. Now you have to pay a fee to the bank and the good check will still be late. Charge both the late fee and the bank fee to the tenant. More than one bounced check and you should require that the tenant start paying with a bank check or money order. Many landlords insist on bank checks or money orders for all tenants, regardless of their payment history, but this has disadvantages. One is that they are inconvenient for tenants. Another is that if a bank check gets lost in the mail, it is harder for the tenant to void it than for a personal check.

You may want to cut extra slack to tenants who let you know ahead of time that their payments will be late. This is usually because the tenant is short on cash. If the lateness is not excessive –three or four days at most – I will waive the late fee. But if I start getting calls like this every month or every other month, I will charge the late fee.

When a tenant tells you he can’t pay full rent on time because of financial trouble, get more details about his problem. The big question is whether his cash crunch is caused by a one-time expense or loss of income, or a permanent or long-term change such as a layoff. If the cause is a one-time expense, chances are he’ll get back on his feet and be able to pay in full on time next month. He still owes you the money for the current month and you can make a separate agreement for this payment. Make sure he knows that violating the separate agreement or paying the next month’s bill late will result in eviction. And if you do make a separate agreement, run it by your attorney to make sure it is legal and enforceable.

The tenant in this situation may also be able to find money from another source to pay the current month’s rent. In my city, the public assistance office will write a one-time check for a tenant who has a cash crunch but is working at a job and can generally afford the unit. However, they won’t make assistance payments every month. Check this with your own local office.

A tenant who can’t pay because of job loss or a permanent new expense can no longer afford the unit. He has to either increase his income or reduce his expenses right away, or move out. Maybe the tenant could get a roommate who can split the rent. Maybe he can get a second job. If not, try to convince him to leave voluntarily, without a formal eviction. It’s better for him, because he won’t owe court costs, and will leave with as much of his assets as possible. But if he won’t leave voluntarily, you must evict, as soon as possible.

  • Is there a way to remove yellow jacket bee hive without killing the bees?

Yellow jacket bees have made a beehive in the back portion of our house in Seattle, U.S.A. Is there a way to relocate them without killing? Is there a way to remove yellow jacket bee hive without killing the bees?
I would definately call a pro for that. No sense in getting yourself sent to the hospital for p*ssing off a whole hive.Is there a way to remove yellow jacket bee hive without killing the bees?
you could try smoking them out, like a bee keeper does but why? yellow jackets are VERY aggressive ( at least here). i would think you would just want to dispose of them all together
    What are you mad!

Why would you want to enable those disease carrying insects, do you know that the are also called ';Meat bees'; reason being, they eat rotting meat, that is their staple and they ';bite'; REPEATEDLY!!! so if you decide to coddle them after they have feasted on a nice peice of greenish-grey-bloated and rotting pustulous maggot laiden-carcass smothered in vomit, feeces and embreo of fly, remember:

    THEY DONT BRUSH AFTER MEALS!

And that which is in their mouths, will not be transfered into your blood stream! Nice way to get a horrible infection....I know!

I was attacked and biten hundreds of times a few years back, you talk about sick!

Please, BE CAREFUL! and sorry if Im ruff, I just freak from those things!
you could maybe try to hit the nest with a water hose from a safe enough distance.
Ha! Ha! I think the best question is, Is there anyway to remove a bee hive without getting YOU killed!!!
hello im a bee keeper in il your best bet is to go get a can of yellow jacket an wsap spray from the hardwear store spray the area when there going in at night when its geting dark what that will do is you spay what is heading in then they will pass the spray around inside an die hope this helps rember spray them at night when its geting dark
Don't let the Israeli Army try it!!!!!
at night they are dormant; U could move it carefully at night to the back yard
THEY ARE ONLY WASPS JUST SPRAY THEM.

What's the most effective way to get rid of bees, wasps, hornets, etc?

We've tried sprays, foggers and hanging traps. Nothing seems to work. We've sprayed the nests that are hanging from our roof. I even sprayed a nest that I saw them flying into that was in the ground! The bees...wasps....and hornets are all still flying around my house!! Any suggestions???What's the most effective way to get rid of bees, wasps, hornets, etc?
There may be another nest somewhere else that you don't know about. Try your attic. If not, then keep on spraying the area where they are and wait and see what happends in a few days. If they are still there call an exterminator.

Can anyone tell me how I can tell where the bees are getting in my log home?

I live in the woods in a log home, I have big yellow bees, stripped, getting in. They can not be getting in through the logs, because we have chinked the inside and have caulked and sealed the outside. Can anyone tell me how I can tell where the bees are getting in my log home?
Can't really say I've experienced this...but how many bees are we talking about? If its just a few, then its probably through an open door every now and then. If its a lot...possibly a bad window seal....or maybe a hole in the window frame (sometimes there are holes in the bottom of the frame for drainage if it rains a lot)....or maybe a chimney/fireplace? How about the attic, if you have one? Light fixtures sometimes have holes, if its recessed lighting. Not sure how your house is set up or how old it is. Check outside of your home....wait until its very quiet at night and go out...do a perimiter check of your home and try to listen for buzzing. I'm serious...sometimes that's the only way when you can't actually see them or how they're getting in. In some homes (we used to have this) they have air holes (often with a screen over them) to give some air to the roof or attic. Not sure you have an attic though, if its a log home. How about the floor boards? Just some ideas. Good luck.

How do I kill a hornets nest without hurting the bees?

There are a few hornets nests around the area of my home, not to mention spiders and earwigs. What is the best way to get rid of these nasty bugs without hurting the good insects like ladybugs and the bumble bees that love the honeysuckle bush in my back yard? How do I kill a hornets nest without hurting the bees?

if they are not near your door

    leave them alone

hornets catch spiders How do I kill a hornets nest without hurting the bees?
The only nasty bug is the earwig.

Ladybugs are good because they eat aphids which eat plants.

Bumble bees help pollenate the plants but also bore holes into lumber.

Hornets, like other preditory wasps, eat other insects.

    Spiders eat other inscects.

I would try to move the hornets nest.

first build a bird house but only one wall and the roof (roof should be one foot by two). Mount it to a pressure treated 4x4 near the garden.

Transfer the hornests nest by using a scraper to remove it from the current location. use Cyanoacrilate glue (CA glue) from any hobby shop to stick the nest to the new site.

How not to get stung. Cigarette smoke onto the nest at night. Blow smoke into a plastic bag (like the kind with a draw string). Move the bag over the nest and close the string. Keep blowing smoke into the bag.
Wait until the sun goes down, but ther is still enough light to see. Then spray the nests wigh foaming hornet/wasp killer spray
Spray it with bug spray at night time.
    i think id move house

What is the best way to get rid of ground bees?

After dark, go out and pour gas in the hole. It will kill them. Make sure to do it after dark when they are all in the hole though. During the day you may kill a few in there, but they will most definitely know you screwed up :)What is the best way to get rid of ground bees?
buy a few spiders.. Or like everyone elses answers gasoline or lighter fluid and yes do it real late to get them all! Please film it and post it on youtube! Also, once you burned them-fill the hole.so no more can start up again! Don't you just love fire fly's?! Lol
we always pour gasoline in the hole. that works great and it will kill them. it will freeze them and will be gone. then we have burned them out before but i dont like that. if some are still alive they will come out and i run, real fast, haha. but the gasoline is the best but as always becareful. hope it works.

How are humans helping cause the population of honey bees to decline?

If you could send me links that you know of it would help! How are humans helping cause the population of honey bees to decline?
Pesticide misuse, loss of habitat, loss of food sources, decline in polulations of wild and native bees (along with domesticated honeybees), there are many, many ways in which humans have accelerated the decline of bee populations. But there are many ways in which we can counteract this decline. We can create safe havens for bees, raise awareness, encourage more beekeeping, etc. Visit the ';Act'; page at The Honeybee Conservancy's website for more info.

    Regards,

    The Honeybee Conservancy

www.thehoneybeeconservancy.orgHow are humans helping cause the population of honey bees to decline?
Humans breed the bees. The selection of traits favored by humans (honey production, active pollination) may be injuring the overall viability of the colonies.

Humans may develop or compromise the habitats favored by wild bees. Honey bees do better in the long term if forced to compete with wild bees.

Humans introduce chemicals into the environment thay may hurt the bees.

Humans may also contribute to the spread of honey bee pathogens and parasites by moving infected/infested colonies near to those that don't yet have problems.
Yes, by clearing hedgerows and meadows for farmland we are destroying the bees' natural habitat. It's not just bees this affects- smaller mammals such as harvest mice are also vulnerable as a result of these practices.
many ways way number one humans kill everything way number two humans are jerks
It seems likely that, thanks to the activities of beekeepers, there are more hive bees on earth now than there have ever been.
they kill them with grenades, and nuclear weopens, and die from raditation posioning. (joking about grenades)

i know their carpenter bees because i killed one when, his head was in the wood with it's butt sticking out.I have carpenter bees living in the railings on my porch.is there any homemade remedy i may use.?
Smoke is the best, non lethal way to make them come out. Once you get them out, the seal the holes with a wood putty, or a silicone based caulk, to keep them out. One thing you should keep in mind though, most bees are of the ';Good Guy '; insect clan, and most bees will not harm you as long as you dont antagonize them.I have carpenter bees living in the railings on my porch.is there any homemade remedy i may use.?
University of Kentucky has information on Carpenter Bees. They indicate that unpainted wood is the preference of Carpenter Bees, so if you can paint the wood after you've filled in the holes with Wood Putty that should help too. Or get a really good flyswatter and practice your tennis serve on them, they bounce!
It's not home made but Hot Shot wasp and hornet spray is very effective.
the only thing i could think of is u could get a smoker (not someone who smokes obviosly) to get them out

How come when bees drop pollen grains they transferred directly onto the stigma of flowers?

is it just luck? How come when bees drop pollen grains they transferred directly onto the stigma of flowers?
Every pollen grain does not end up on the stigma of a flower. And for that matter, some pollen grains end up on the stigma of a flower of the wrong species. The bees take a lot of pollen back home with them for food. But there is a LOT of pollen.

The flowers and the bees have coevolved so that their pollen-carrying and pollen accepting structures are positioned in a way that makes it more likely that successful pollination will happen. And the stigma is sticky with fluid so it traps any pollen that brushes against it.How come when bees drop pollen grains they transferred directly onto the stigma of flowers?
Bees have a bunch of sticky hairs on their lower legs and feet. When bees visit one flower, pollen from the anther sticks to the hairs. Then the bee flies to another flower. When it lands on the flower, the sturdiest part is the stigma, and that is where the bee often ends up landing.

The sticky hairs are then PERFERCTLY situated to transfer pollen onto the stigma. It's not luck. It's evolution.
Inside the flower can be a rather tight space; if the pollen is stuck to the bee's legs or body, it can simply brush off as the bee moves around on the flower.

Has a reason and solution for the myseterious dying bees of the world been found yet?

I saw a documentary on Discovery or National Geographic on the almost overnight deaths of millions and millions of the world's bees. They were looking into a number of reasons why this could have happened, but it wasn't yet conclusive.

Are they any closer to finding out what happened and what the solution is?Has a reason and solution for the myseterious dying bees of the world been found yet?
There’s still no concrete evidence about what is killing the millions and billions of bees around the country, but there are a lot of guesses.

The phenomenon is recent, dating back to autumn, when beekeepers along the east coast of the US started to notice the die-offs. It was given the name of fall dwindle disease, but now it has been renamed to reflect better its dramatic nature, and is known as colony collapse disorder.

It is swift in its effect. Over the course of a week the majority of the bees in an affected colony will flee the hive and disappear, going off to die elsewhere. The few remaining insects are then found to be enormously diseased - they have a “tremendous pathogen load”, the scientists say. But why? No one yet knows.

… The disease showed a completely new set of symptoms, “which does not seem to match anything in the literature”, said the entomologist.

… the few bees left inside the hive were carrying “a tremendous number of pathogens” - virtually every known bee virus could be detected in the insects, she said, and some bees were carrying five or six viruses at a time, as well as fungal infections. Because of this it was assumed that the bees’ immune systems were being suppressed in some way. - The Independent

There are as many theories as there are members of the panel, but Mr Hackenberg strongly suspects that new breeds of nicotine-based pesticides are to blame.

“It may be that the honeybee has become the victim of these insecticides that are meant for other pests,” he said. “If we don’t figure this out real quick, it’s going to wipe out our food supply.”

Just a few miles down the sunlit road, it is easy to find farmers prepared to agree with his gloomy assessment.

… Dennis van Engelsdorp, a Pennsylvania-based beekeeper and leading researcher… is adamant that it is too early to pin the blame on insecticides.”We have no evidence to think that that theory is more right than any other…” - BBC

Urban sprawl and farming also have taken away fields of clover and wildflowers, as well as nesting trees.

Pesticides and herbicides used in farming and on suburban lawns can weaken or kill bees.

Caron said a new class of pesticides used on plants, called neonicotinoids, don’t kill bees but hamper their sense of direction. That leaves them unable to find their way back to their hives.

… Because these bees aren’t returning to their hives, researchers don’t have a lot of evidence to study.

Those dead bees that have been found nearby have only deepened the mystery.

“They are just dirty with parts and pieces of various diseases,” said Jim Tew, a beekeeping expert with the OSU Extension campus in Wooster. “It looks like a general stress collapse.”

Similar disappearances have occurred over time. Tew said he remembers a similar phenomenon in the 1960s. Then, it was called “disappearing disease.”

“It was exactly the same thing,” he said.

But this one, Caron said, apparently causes hives to collapse at a much quicker rate and is more widespread.

Cobey said it could be from too much of everything: bad weather, chemicals, parasites, viruses.

“If you give them one of these things at a time, they seem to deal with it,” she said. “But all of these things, it’s too hard.

“I think the bees are just compromised. They’re stressed out.” - Columbus Dispatch

Whatever the cause, some farmers are getting desperate, to the point of not bothering to plant their crops.

“The squash crops that we grow have a male and female bloom, and the bee has to visit…to make it pollinate and produce,” he said.

“We’re going to have a hard time finding rental bees to aid in this pollination and if it’s as critical as it looks like it will be, I probably won’t even plant anything this spring.” - BBC

Huge monocrop farming systems and specialisations, and the spread of suburbia across natural habitat, are removing natural diversity. Bees have been lumped together in the millions, in a factory farm type environment not so unlike that of our chickens and other livestock animals. Many of these bees are transported across several states to perform pollinations in orchards and farms around the country. Today they are in contact with substances they shouldn’t have to deal with - pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics, and pollen from genetically modified crops. Researchers are scrambling to find answers, and as the spring season is upon us, time is running out.

Honey bees, which are not native to the U.S. incidentally (they were imported for crop pollination), are tasked with the pollination of approximately one third of all U.S. crops.

… scientists are very worried, not least because, as there is no obvious cause for the disease as yet, there is no way of tackling it. - The IndependentHas a reason and solution for the myseterious dying bees of the world been found yet?
The simple answer is no. The problem stems from the fact that Colony Collapse Disorder involves bees disappearing from a particular area, which can be caused by may different causes including pesticides, fungi and viruses. Another problem is that there is very little data on natural bee hives across the world, basically no one knows the health of bees that are not kept for honey production. It is however true that in areas affected by CCD natural bee hives have also been affected.

That being said, there are areas of the world that could benefit by European bee disappearance. This is because the European bee is aggressive and can kill and colonies hives of bee species native to that area, upsetting a delicate insect/plant balance unique to that area of the world. While it is true that CCD on European bee stocks would posses a threat to the food reserves of a large percentage of worlds population the world would not become a flowering plant desert as was suggested in the documentary. Again there is very little evidence either way to say that CCD is effecting native bee populations, but there is a great deal of evidence showing that European bees place a huge strain on native colonies.

In short, The answer to CCD is not easy to find and is more than likely to be a combination of factors putting extreme stress on the Hive until it collapse.

    Hope this helps.
No but i saw a farmer who's bees have all died out of 1000 on 150 are alive. The food is going up so high and now they say you can only buy 1 bag of rice as people are stocking up on food as with out bee's many foods will not be around' and it's scary.i have never seen anything this worrisome ever nor will i see something like this that hits all humans vegetarians and non alike.
There are many factors which are against the bees environment, in particular, the environmental issues which we ourselves are currently experiencing ie:Global Warming, forever changing weather patterns of late, cyclones and hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanic activities which cause our atmosphere to warm up, and the list goes on.

As the bees environment is difficult to manage, and determining what is needed to help battle their hazardous environmental issues which ultimately cause them to cease in existance is indeed an issue which will affect all of us.

As far as finding an answer to the problem occurring, this seems to be a common question being asked on Yahoo Answers in different shapes and forms, but it all comes down to what we should be doing to help protect our own environment, as well as theirs. The question is, what are we prepared to do to change our attitude about how we are treating nature, as nature seems to be the place that we are seeking resources to shelter, feed and expand into as we over populate ourselves continually.

There are answers to this and many other questions, but I believe we have to look at the bigger picture in order to find the core answer. I'm not a scientist and I don't ever want to be one, but logic and common sense prevails here. It is up to us to do something about it. I'm not sure whether I have answered your question, but this gives people a viewpoint to think about their consequences from their actions. My hope is that it will not be too late to change and help our planet, so bees environments, amongst other animals, will survive. Hope this viewpoint helps......
This phenomena is also called ';Colony Collapse Disorder';. There are currently no specific reasons but there are a range. Some include pathogens like viruses or bacteria but also some kinds of pesticides based on nicotine may be contributing.

It is likely to be a range of different factors perhaps one or two that combine to collapse a hive.
There are too many reasons that have been proposed: cell phone towers, pesticides, parasites, and combinations of these combined with stress. The main problem seems to be with the hives that are shipped around the country to pollinate crops; wild colonies seem to be doing better. Nobody really knows.
Yeah. Bees have receptor things (whazzit called?) that lead them back to their own hives. Studies have shown, that mobile phone towers intercept these receptors and confuse the bees so they can't find their way back. With no hive, the bees can't survive because they have no food or protection. Hope that helps. =)
I heard that it's cellphones and all the inter-electronic activity in the air. It somehow shocks their systems and they die. But, that's second hand. I never looked in to it.

    When was the documentary filmed?
Cycle of Nature really. Bee's and humans have been around since long ago. But even we aren't going to be around forever. Bee's also apply to the order of things. Just hope its going to work out fine. Thats all we can do really.
I dont know the complete details but Einstein once said when bees start to die off (and they are) it is the beginning of the end of mankind. Bees being on the bottom of the food chain. Hope this helps. Aussie Paul.
I heard on an episode of CSI that when all the bees die it will be the end of the human race- Sarah says it to Grisham. Why don't they start bee farms to get them to increase?
Einstein said something like if all the bees on Earth ceased to exist, then all humanity will die out. Sounds a little far fetched.
there's like amovie about this coming to theaters called

It's getting colder, so the bees' activity level drops. They land wherever they can and don't have the strength to fly away.

You might also notice that there aren't nearly as many houseflies around these days. The cold, dry weather reduces their activity, too.
There has been a problem with honey bees dying off over the last couple of years in the western US. They don't really know the cause of it, but it's a big concern to many people, especially farmers. Try a web search to get more detailed info.

Why can Africanized bees go on a stinging frenzy for as far as 1600 feet from the site of the threat?

We do know that unlike European honey bees, Africanized bees, if disturbed, can bring a swarm of about 50,000 bees to sting you directly in an aggressive frenzy.

European honey bees, however, will only usualy bring 200-300 bees in a swarm to sting you if you disturb them. This is what makes Africanized bees so dangerous. Why can Africanized bees go on a stinging frenzy for as far as 1600 feet from the site of the threat?

You have carpenter bees and must be in the southeast. My son and I were building a deck in NC with lumber treated by cyanide---suddenly sawdust was falling on my head---big old bumble looking bee boring a hole. Plug them with spackle or silicone---these bees don't bite so spray them--they will get the hint.
I would call a bug guy like Terminex or something and find out what can be done since this is a yearly problem. They will probably have an option that could help you in years to come that a one time fix couldnt do.

General Control Notes - Since bees, yellowjackets, hornets and wasps are all considered to be beneficial insects, control should only be done where there is an imminent threat to people or their pets. These insects can (when provoked) inflict a painful, venomous sting and/or bite. Some people are so sensitive to the venom's complex amino acids, proteins and enzymes they develop severe allergic reactions known as anaphylaxis and may even die without an injection of an antidote. Africanized bees can and do kill normal people during an attack frenzy that can include hundreds of stings. Remove or cover all garbage, dropped fruit, soft drinks, pet food and other protein and sugar food sources. Routinely clean all dumpsters, garbage cans and spills. If you spray stinging insects with enzymes or dish detergent mixed with water, they generally die in 6 seconds, or simply vacuum them up.
Only female sex of the carpenter bee stings(eastern Common) and she has a black face, males have a white face. Get Spectracide Bug Stop, read directions, and spray directly in the holes preferably at night. During the day you risk a sting if you encounter a female and she feels captured.. Once the bee activity is gone, plug the holes if you want, but read up on how to truly rid yourself of them.

So if you ever find yourself being attacked by a bear, I'll make sure no one kills the bear in fear of being REPULSIVE!
Spring is the best time, when they start to fly again.
Treatments for mites and bacterial pests are best begun in the spring BEFORE the honey flow begins and re-treatment in the fall after the honey flow has ended and the honey harvested. This prevents contamination of the honey that is intended for human consumption.

I'm just confirming what care suggested. Friends of my parents live on an acreage and recommended this to them if they ever get bees or wasps.

Apparently this is a very easy, inexpensive and effective way of getting rid of them.
If they are honey bees a bee keeper will take them. If they are carpenter bees, or wasps you need to get rid of them, In that case, it's just self defense, and protecting your property.
I've heard that if you inflate and hang up a brown paper bag, wasps will see it as a ';rival'; nest and stay away. I have no idea whether or not that would work with bees, but it's worth a try.
find a beekeeper in your area and he will take them

Well, bees make flowers reproduce by spreading the pollon from one flower to another... they do it accidently and naturally. I suppose birds might do the same thing at sorts? I'm not sure about birds. What the heck is the birds and the bees?
This is a song from the broadway musical 'Once Upon a mattress.I t's about the birds and the bees.(Dauntless interprets aloud as the king mimes his advice)

    It's very int'resting鈥?Thank you, father.

And father, I love you so!
It's a story people used to tell to explain how babies are made. Bees represent males, because they polinate the flowers. Birds represent women, because they hatch the eggs. The cabbage patch comes into this somewhere too, but i don't know the entire story.
I have no Idea myself. That talk is usually use with guys not women so ask a guy and it maybe a little awkward but in the end you might get it.
It is just a easy way for parents to tell their children how babies are made
Because it's perfect for explaining sex. Birds are the girls and bees are the boys.
    Ask your mom.

What is the approximate year when all honey bees will die?

Not one credible scientist has said they expect them all to die out. What is the approximate year when all honey bees will die?
In California, our honeybee has changed. The non-native European honeybee and the Africanized ';Killer Bees'; are now essentially 1 species, unless raised in captivity. There are many native bee and insect species that occupied this nitch before the honeybees displaced them. No doubt if the honeybees do vanish here it won't be a serious ecological problem, if managed correctly. What is the approximate year when all honey bees will die?
Their not all going to die.

Dont let chicken little fool you into thinking that the sky is falling.
why do you think they are all going to die?
how the hell am i supposed to know that
