No bees no life and the government asked for 拢6 million to help?

It appears that we are now importing 80% of our honey from abroad, fine you might think but this is a whole lot more serious than you think. The humble Bee pollinates our fruit etc and they are falling victim to a parasite. Without them we are fcuked but will the government stump up the money, or are they preoccupied with throwing money down the drain. No bees no life and the government asked for 拢6 million to help?
Why do you think the Labour government might be interested in anything to do with the rural economy, they'll just see this particular problem as part of that without even being aware of this terrible catastrophe which will finish farming and fruit and flowers un the UK and the rest of the world. The Varroa mite has been around for a few years now and trying to treat the hives hasn't worked terribly well as bees do what comes naturally and buzz around anywhere they want dropping the mites into flowers etc where they can be picked up by some unsuspecting other little bee and then it starts all over again. If they die we don't have crop fertilisation, no crops, no food. Labour have just about killed off farming in our country, they don't understand it, never have, never will. Farming has been generational and the love of the soil is deeply rooted in its people. Labour have only ever seen it as a cash rich cow to bleed dry.No bees no life and the government asked for 拢6 million to help?
Thank you! Report Abuse

The Varroa mite arrived in 1991/2, the Tories were in power, they chose to ignore it in the same way as they did the MRSA bug. It's pointless making a political point of it as one government aren't going to be better than another generally. The mite started in Asia, to the US to the continent to the UK. We knew it was coming and it should have ideally been nipped in the bud.

edit: actually I do agree with you.
Yes. I'm with you. I think there's a natural disaster just around the corner. I'm not a green type either - but the soon to be extinct polar bears, disappearing bees, dying horse chestnut trees, floods - are all telling us something and we're all putting our fingers in our ears and won't listen.

Edit: I can't belive Micheal is blaming ';immigrant'; bees!!! lol. Why must everything be the fault of things or people from other countries! As if blame will help.
I know.

It worries me.

The dead-zones in the sea, there was 114

I've just looked again %26amp; now there's 200.

Perhaps I better stop looking.

It makes me want to cry, the mess mankind is making of our planet.
Yes, I agree. I read something about this in the Obsever some time ago, it's similar to the 'butterfly effect'. The well being of our planet appears of less importance.
You know the irony of this story is that the parasite in question was brought into this country on imported bees ............. another case of imported parasites ruining the country?
Do you think the government care that bees are threatened with extinction?

I'm sure they would rather spend the cash on jailing little old ladies for not paying their council tax and bailing out the banks.
I agree with everything that Helen s said.

For the good of our land (in more ways that one ) they must take notice but as Bees don't work for the banks I doubt they will get a penny.

Its pretty scary stuff!
I believe there are provisions in our stimulus bill that will dedicate resources to this issue.
