T. Ray in The Secret Life of Bees (movie and book)?

Okay, so I watched the film The Secret Life of Bees the other week, read the book this week and then watched the film again today and one thing that remains a mystery to me is when Lily runs off why does T. Ray try so hard to look for her?

Is it that T. Ray, in his own warped way loves Lily?

I come to that conclusion because earlier on in the film when Lily tells T. Ray she hates him he looks hurt, and then he looks hurt again when he leaves Lily with August, June and Rosaleen in Tiburon.T. Ray in The Secret Life of Bees (movie and book)?
He needs her to cook and clean for him, and to help him sell peaches. I think maybe he does love her a little bit.T. Ray in The Secret Life of Bees (movie and book)?
actually i read this book a year ago and never watched the movie, so i don't remember the facts exactly. so sorry for any errors.

1)i think he might have loved her a bit becoz she is after all his daughter

2) or he might have been vain and could not accept that someone could go against his thoughts and ideologies and hence it hurt his pride.

thus you can interpret this in many ways as it depends on how u perceive his character.

hope i have helped
