What does this quote mean from the secret life of bees by sue monk kidd?

';People, in general, would rather die than forgive. It's that hard.';What does this quote mean from the secret life of bees by sue monk kidd?
I'm reading that book right now. I love it. Have you read it, yet? It's easier to understand that quote when it is taken in context to the rest of the story. What does this quote mean from the secret life of bees by sue monk kidd?
people have such a hard time forgiving other people that have done them wrong that they would try anything to not forgive the person.
i have never read it but.... right at this very minute i can relate. my 15 year old nephew was murdered on august 10th... i am so hurt and so angry and people say i need to eventually forgive the woman who did it, and it will help me heal.... right now I say... i would def rather die then forgive her for what she did.
Heh, I think it's pretty self-explanitory. The last thing people want to do whenever they are wronged, is to forgive. Everyone knows that you're supposed to, but most people can't truly do it.

The author used something as extreme as death to compare to how hard it is to forgive someone.
People would rather hold grudges and lose friends than forgive someone for what they did. people can make mistakes and its sad that people make the even bigger mistake of not forgiving.
It means someone that has been hurt so emotionally to a degree that it changes their entire view on life,or of a person,or effects how they live in the future etc..And has tried everything they know how, to move on or forgive a person and just can not seem to ';move forward';.They will always in one way shape or form, rather hold whatever the amount of hate is in their heart for that person and die. Knowing, that what they've done is unforgivable to them.
